Our interpretation of Dual-Belief, again...

Some people will have heard of 'Dual - Belief',  'Dual - Faith'  Dual - Observance etc. , something the "Cultus Sabbati/Andrew Chumbley" may have coined to describe an old cultural way of thought.  People think it's a rare or exotic thing or has something to do with neo-paganism or Reconstruction Paganism.  It isn't necessarily so unfamiliar.

An example of this in the U.S. upland south is the Christian who believes in ghosts or help from ancestors/ deceased relatives.  Christianity clearly states "the holy dead" are 'asleep'.  However, some people believe that dead family protect or help them and become personal 'angels'.  This isn't as common as it used to be, as people don't believe much of anything now.  There are of course, some of us traditionalists/old fashion thinkers who believe this, still.  There are as in any belief different levels of this belief.  There are fundamentalists that have this belief, but keep it to themselves.  There are some nominally Christian people who believe more in the power of the family and ancestors than they do Christianity (a rare thing these days). This is a controversial 'thesis', even in 2017.  Atheists will call you uneducated and ignorant and fundamentalists will tell you how you are going straight to Hell or give the 'cold shoulder' or physical violence (another dual cultural belief, as the Christ can only determine this spiritual state: judgment).  This is what happens when you take a 'foreign', yes foreign belief and introduce it to the cultural strata of another culture (even in ancient times).

Our Neighbor, Mexico has devout and marginal Catholics who believe in Santissima Muerte.   Some Tantriks believe in Brahma, even though they believe more so in the Daevas (nature spirits) and Shiva.  Some believe in the power of  Peri, Jnun, Djinn, Bhut, etc. even though that is not their main belief and sometimes dangerous to declare publically.  Dual-Belief is multi-cultural and universal.  There are people who are Christians (devout, marginally, and nominally) and believe in 'UFO's' and that 'aliens' speak to and help them...this is not science it is also belief, an instance of 'modern dual belief'.  Obviously, 'Dual-Faith' is a larger cultural phenomenon, old and new.
