Facets of Folk -Religion

1.  It is completely connected to a major religion or has a tenuous link.  Sometimes, it becomes a rejection of a major religion (The cult of Santissima Muerta in Middle America seems to cover all three).
2. It evolves with the era.
3. It satisfies a need or many, that the 'major religions' do not.
4. It links past and present.
5. Occasionally, it develops "Saints"
6. It involves the forces of 'luck' or 'fate' and how to mediate them.
7. It is sometimes confused with paganism, neo-paganism, heresies, etc.
8. It is based in folklore, whether popular, scarce or familial.
