Parents
A lot of ethnicities view their Parents, as more stern and demanding, than U.S.A PARENTS. This is somewhat true, we suppose... However, Mountain People (or Appalachians, if you prefer) usually, rarely, deny their parents wishes! The younger generations, might do, but the older were told what to do until Ma AND Pa, had 'crossed the Jordan'.
So this is one of many things we have in common. These people would move to other states for work, when there was none in OUR CONVENIENTLY FORGOTTEN area. Then, come back 'home' with the savings and work even more. Difficult to find an excuse to 'I went 700 miles away to raise you!". Just a thought, on an ridiculed and despised part of the U.S.A.
