A'fore Me

In 19th/20th century North Carolina, 'Hoodoo -Practitioners' used the formula "God A'fore me, God behind me, God above me, God to my left, God to my right.  This mirrors the Qabalistic formula/prayer of the protective Angels!  It was used to make a 'luck-ball' or 'spirit-ball', with woven yarn, herbs, and 'tinfoil'.  REPETITIVE "conjurations" were repeated to coax a spirit into the ball, which was carried on the person.
