Some Ideas on the Storm/Lightning
In Medieval and Southern U.S. lore, "The Devil" was thought of as a power connected to natural phenomena, a nature spirit, if you will. This included trees struck by lightning (a Hierogamos - Earth and Heaven meet ). Our Ole' Buck was associated with lightning strikes on the seashore and a little bit in the harbours and Atlantic (like Bwcca Gwid and Bucca Du, in Cornwall). Lightning symbolizes the flash of knowledge/gnosis according to the Cultus Sabbati (U.K., U.S.A. Australia). Lightning can kill, but it can also cause change in the Individual. Southern/U.S. lore, gives the impression that lightning rips the clouds open, to the life giving rain. Intense lightning, is indeed followed by heavy rain in Southern U.S. .
