Hexentanz- Mark of the Witch (musics and cinema, artfully transposed)

This is the band Hexentanz and the song "Mark of the Witch".  The video comes from the Russian 'horror-comedy' 'Viy'.   Via MrsMisanthopy (Youtube).  The purpose of posting is to point out several mythic and 'folkloric' elements.

1. In German, "Hasch" is equivalent to "hashish" in the beginning of the song.  This was listed in several 'witches transvection ointments'.  Whether it was an addition by priests during the European witch trials or an actual ingredient, is still debated in scholarly circles.

2. The mention of the 'Erythraean sea' and 'the cave' in the song,  this is similar to other ideas of supernatural boundaries.  The idea that the three worlds or multitude of worlds have fixed boundaries.

3.  "Elder Oak, does the Dragon COIL around".  People will mistakenly point out, it was Ash the 'Dragon' coiled around (Yggdrasil).  While that is true, it has little to do with Elphame/Sabbat tree, which can be Oak, Chestnut (In the US), Elder, Papaw (In the US), Walnut (In Italy), Hazel (The "Otter" (German for White Dragon).  Hexentanz (Witches Dance), also play bone flutes (no, not a euphemism), which in Medieval lore was one of the Sabbatic musical instruments and in modern witch-lore part of necromantic practice.  Dragon can refer to the whole Earth, a large serpent, a regular snake, a person of certain descent or ancestry, a crocodile, an unruly bull, a storm, a meteorite, a witch, or a king/queen.

4.  The film Viy from the 1960's contains folklore elements;  The 'philosopher' or seminarian mistakenly draws his 'magic circle', counter-clockwise, an invitation to the dead and witches.  I'm not aware if the actors or director knew this.  The Eastern Orthodox church makes the sign of the Cross, "backwards", according to some, but this is just a matter of ideological debate.  The cock crows and the witch/spirits must return from where they came (pan-European folklore).  Viy has eyelids which have to be raised, (Balor and Lugh, Irish Myth).  The witch can transform herself into a young, beautiful woman (pan-European folklore).

Hexentanz - Mark of the Witch
hasch tobira hasch du kan hier forto hasch ti konta
It was the erythraean sea the mother serpent found
and from the caves shall she be called
unto the sabbat enthroned on the elder oak
does the dragon coil around
unto the sabbat enthroned on the elder oak
does the dragon coil around
It was the erythraean sea the mother serpent found
and from the caves shall she be called
